For one, I don't put characters' thoughts in quotations anymore. Before I started this, I had only written about 20,000 words of my first novel. Those sections had to be heavily edited. My writing has gotten better.

I'd loved to get published, but from everything I hear, you basically have to know someone in the industry. And if we're being honest, I'm probably not good enough to compete with most of those people that are trying to get published themselves. If I had my way, my self-published books will be at the top of the best seller's lists. The other thing about being published is that I don't like losing that creative control. Often times the tiniest detail in my stories actually means something, and it would be all but too easy for a publisher to really screw up some major, if not clandestine, parts of my book. If you're reading one of my stories, chances are something isn't quite what it seems. It could be miniscule, it could be important to the plot, but I like to "hide" a lot of things in my stories. My short stories I don't always do this in, but my novels have a lot of this. I like to give meaningful names too. Know what the name means, you might know something important to the story.

So ultimately, I would love to be published. If I could, I would be. But I don't think I even stand much of a chance. But self-publishing will hopefully be fun, and if only a few people are reading my books, that's more than I ever thought would. I hated writing growing up. It wasn't until I started writing fiction that I learned to love it.

Sent from Mail for Windows 10
